The Pirate’s Code
As members of the crew, we are committed to the following tenets:
1. We pursue the next season.
Today, season 3. Tomorrow… who knows? If your personal age of piracy comes to an end, it was a pleasure sailing with you.
2. We kill with kindness.
We act with integrity in media mentions, social movements, and any interaction that could reflect on the fandom as a whole. Menacing is best served politely.
3. We agree that disagreements are not mutiny.
We discuss statements and facts, not people, whenever possible. We commit to fostering psychological safety. We want this to be a safe space ship. Pirates are people too, and we flex our “forgive and forget” skills often and generously. Mistakes aren’t the end of the world.
4. We don’t own each other.
Participation with Save OFMD is not a full-time job. We’re here for the love of our show and our blorbos. We extend patience and grace for those prioritizing their in-real-life responsibilities and health. We recognize that vulnerable people do not always have the privilege of sharing personal information safely.
5. We share our bits of fabric.
We’re here for gay pirates, not personal gain. If artists among us benefit from providing our community with the art and merchandise we crave, that’s because we support their work as individuals, not because we’re out to make anyone internet famous. Anyone’s success achieving positive recognition or press for this effort is everyone’s success.
6. We are pirates, not police.
This crew doesn’t waste energy policing the behaviour of others. We pursue solutions that prioritize the community, not punitive justice.
7. To love the sea as she must be loved requires change.
Our most powerful platforms are media platforms where details and conversations move quickly. We recognize and respect the value in being aware and nimble, staying open to suggestion, seeking input, and setting course according to the best information we have at any given time.
8. We’re swashbuckling! Let’s have fun with it!
We’re passionate about this, but we have perspective. There’s a world outside our escapism, and we respect others’ priorities.
