International fans of beloved pirate romcom Our Flag Means Death are promoting the campaign to save the popular show following its cancellation by US streamer Max.

Following a campaign that saw fans erect a billboard in Times Square (New York) in January 2024, the show’s international fans have turned their attention to the UK, where the second season of the show has been airing on BBC Two and streaming on BBC iPlayer since 5 February 2024.

The UK leg of the Save OFMD campaign will capitalise on the show’s UK release to promote the campaign to save the show via a billboard above the Vue Cinema in busy Leicester Square, an area chosen for its prominence at the heart of London’s entertainment district.

The ad will run for 10 seconds every minute and state that Our Flag Means Death deserves a third series. It will ask passers-by to add their names to the 87,000+ signatures on the fandom-wide petition calling for the story to be continued. It will also alert those who haven’t yet watched to the fact that the show can be streamed on iPlayer.

In addition, now that a second stretch goal has been met, the campaign will feature the use of LED vans that will visit the London offices of Apple, Amazon, and Netflix — three streamers that Our Flag fans hope will adopt the show for its third season. The campaign aims to show these companies the passionate and dedicated fandom for this show — and how lucrative adopting such a fandom could be.

If a third and final stretch goal is reached, the campaign will also include advertising to the five million commuters that use the London Underground every day, to encourage more attention for the show and subsequent petition sign-ups.
